Business Problem Solving | Fall 2025 BE+GOA Pilot

Tackle Real-World Challenges in Business: How does climate change impact supply chains? Are tariffs a threat or an opportunity? Is your company’s cybersecurity strong enough? In today’s fast-paced business landscape, problem-solving is essential. In this course, you’ll analyze relevant, real world case studies from global corporations and innovative startups, and you’ll collaborate with peers to develop creative solutions to challenges in operations, marketing, finance, sustainability, and more.

Synchronous meeting requirements:

  • Virtual class sessions will take place every other week and this time will be used for short presentations, Q&A and discussions.
  • There will be 1 in-person/F2F session scheduled for a field learning experience and/or meeting with local guest experts. Possible field learning sites include: Startup Accelerators/Incubators, Tech Companies, JA NorCal

About the GOA Instructor

Jim Burns – Global Online Academy

Jim is a social sciences and business teacher currently teaching World Course at Avenues: The World School in New York City. He is deeply committed to collaboration—whether with colleagues, students, or families—with the shared goal of fostering thoughtful, engaged global citizens of all ages.

With an international mindset and years of experience living and teaching abroad, Jim brings a global perspective to the classroom. He embraces the culture of every place he calls home and considers both New York and Mexico as especially meaningful parts of his journey.

Outside the classroom, Jim enjoys strong coffee, reading The New Yorker, exploring both local and far-off destinations, listening to podcasts, hiking, and the occasional antique hunt.
